Job Title:              Recreation Coordinator

Department:         Parks & Recreation

Reports To:          Recreation Superintendent

Status:                  Full Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Starting Wage:    $17.75-$21.64 per hour (Typically hire at the minimum, wage is DOE)

Close Date:          September 28th, 2017

Hours:                  40 hours per week


Position Summary:

This position is responsible for assisting in the development, planning, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of recreation and educational programs, activities, and/or events of the community. Some essential functions of the position include; assist to maintain recreation department goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for appropriate service areas; assign work activities and responsibilities to appropriate department personnel; develop and manage a specific diversified program of recreation activities and services; schedule use of recreational facilities; assist with planning and special events; ensure that recreation programs run smoothly and have all the resources needed to succeed; relate to people beyond giving and receiving instructions; get along with co-workers or peers without exhibiting behavioral extremes; perform work activities requiring negotiating or speaking with others; respond appropriately to criticism from a supervisor; supervise part-time staff, including recruiting, interviewing, selecting, training assigning and evaluating work, and disciplining; availability to work nights and weekends; perform other duties as assigned by the Recreation Superintendent and/or Parks & Recreation Director.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of the methods and techniques of developing and operating recreation

programs; rules and regulations of a variety of sports and recreational activities; the operation

of personal computers and various software applications including spread sheets, word

processing, etc.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, various age

groups, other organizations, and the public; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

The employee is also required to be able to coordinate two or more limbs while sitting, standing, or lying down.

While performing the duties of this job, Work is moderately quiet while in an office setting and generally loud noise or very loud noise (ex. Large earth-moving equipment, lawn mowers, painting machine) while in the field.  Work can be performed in outdoor settings and in all weather conditions. Individual is exposed to hazards associated with lawn and building maintenance including smoke, noxious odors, fumes, chemicals, liquid chemicals, solvents, and oils.



Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age;
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Recreation Administration or a closely related field;
  • And one (1) year of related experience;
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
